Art, angst and abstract

May 03 2014

A major personal crisis towards the end of 2013 changed the focus in my art
dramatically. I’d been exploring various ways of transforming
biographical narrative through the use of various media. The narrative
was always centred on the stories of others. While this crisis was
happening I needed to turn inward and find a way of escaping the drama
unfolding around me…..to give myself a kind of ‘productive quiescence’. I
had several aborted attempts at abstract painting in the past. This
particular time in my life it completely makes sense to work in this way
and I feel compelled to continue the journey.

Process is still important as an intrinsic and visible part of the work. There
is a struggle(dance?) between mark making, flow and texture….it takes
time to reach a point where it all comes together. I want this to show.

It’s a new relationship that promises to be a very deep one. For the first
time in a long while I’m very excited about the work I’m making and
where it’s coming from.

'Craft is a starting place, a set of possibilities.
It avoids absolutes, certainties, over-robust definitions, solace.
It offers places, interstices, where objects and people meet.
It is unstable, contingent.
It is about experience. It is about desire.
It can be beautiful.’

Up and running!!

September 25 2012
Spent the day getting this portfolio together after accidentaly deleting a website that took me 3 weeks to build! Daaaaa! This is a better way of doing things I hope ....I like the look of Paspartout. Quite easy to put together once you get into it. Lots of interesting useful stuff via this site I haven't even explored yet.

Not a lot of pics of new stuff yet....patience! Still getting the jewellery together and must take more pics of paint effects work. Didn't take any of my gilding etc for 'Victorias Secret' in Bond St  work but will do with next work for 'La Sensa' (Oxford St.)...starting next week. At least the foundations are laid.

Can't wait to start putting some images on from MA...starting next Monday!  .....Whoopy!

Lots more to do!
